COP17: What Happened and What Does it Mean?

A discussion meeting convened by UCT’s African Climate & Development Initiative, the Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership, and Sustainable Energy Africa.

Date: Tuesday 24th January

Purpose

We bring together a diverse panel of participants from the recent COP

17 in Durban to provide insight into what went on, and explore the implications of the outcomes of the COP for global, African, South African and Western Cape contexts.

The Panel

Professor Mark New (Chair). Director African Climate and Development Initiative.

Professor Harald Winkler. Group leader: Energy, Environment & Climate Change at the Energy Research Centre, UCT, and member of the South African UNFCCC negotiating team.

Professor Guy Midgely. Chief Director: Climate Change at the SA National Biodiversity Institute, and member of the South African UNFCCC negotiating team.

Professor Richard Calland. Department of Public Law, UCT, and Executive Director of ODAC.

Jon Duncan, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance principles) Analyst, Old Mutual.

Professor Bruce Hewitson, NRF Research Chair for Climate Change, UCT.

Stef Raubenheimer, Chief Executive Officer, SouthSouthNorth.
